Best Trade Destination: Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to have some difficulties landing Ben Simmons from the Philadelphia 76ers. They likely need to find a third team to help facilitate such a trade. If they can find that, the Timberwolves present one of the best trade destinations for Simmons.
The Timberwolves have an excellent young duo in Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards they can build around. Having two scorers of that caliber is key to finding success on offense if Simmons is running the show. Improving upon their 3-point shooting, as they finished 25th in the NBA last season, is imperative to a Simmons-led offense as well.
The Timberwolves also have to turn things around on defense. They finished 28th in defensive rating last season, with the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings being the only teams with worse numbers. Simmons would help turn those numbers around instantly.
The pressure of not having to carry a team may also help Simmons. As the No. 1 pick in what was dubbed ‘The Process,’ there was immense pressure to get the Philadelphia 76ers over the hump. With the Timberwolves, that wouldn’t exist as he would be joining a team with a face of the franchise already in place and with far less media attention to scrutinize his play.
