2. Eastern Conference Looks Deeper Than Western Conference

For years it has seemed that the strongest teams have resided in the Western Conference. It is a gauntlet going through there, especially once LeBron James left the Eastern Conference for the first time to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jokes were made at the expense of the Eastern Conference, as they couldn’t stack up to the Western Conference. But, if these first two weeks have shown us anything, it is that the playoff races in the Eastern Conference are going to be more competitive as they have the deeper conference this season.

The emergence of the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Chicago Bulls, and Charlotte Hornets have put other teams on notice. As things currently stand right now, the Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Cleveland Cavaliers would be squaring off in the NBA Play-In Tournament with the reigning NBA champions just on the outside of the mix.

The Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference is going to involve some heavy-hitters. If the Nets, Hawks, and Bucks move up in the standings, someone else is going to move down. The Boston Celtics are still on the outside looking in as well.

While some may argue that the Western Conference has title-contending teams, it does not have nearly the same amount of depth in the early going as the Eastern Conference. The Eastern Conference looks like it could be wide open, creating some opportunities for teams they didn’t originally think would be possible to obtain.
