Before the Los Angeles Lakers proceeded to trade for Russell Westbrook, they had their sights on Buddy Hield of the Sacramento Kings.

While a trade for Hield seemed like a done deal, Los Angeles orchestrated a trade with the Washington Wizards to land Westbrook instead ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Even after acquiring Westbrook, there were reports that the Lakers were still trying to discover a way to add Hield.But with limited cap space and new free agents that couldn’t be traded, Los Angeles had to forget about the idea of acquiring Hield, at least for the time being.

Of the potential trade candidates, Hield would be the ideal fit for the Lakers. Los Angeles needs a shooter around Westbrook, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, especially with Russell Westbrook not being an efficient shooter.

As long as the Kings aren’t in the playoff race before the NBA trade deadline, Buddy Hield could become a target for the Lakers.
