Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?

Christian Wood has been fantastic for the Rockets and while they do want to move Eric Gordon, trading both players away and bringing back Kristaps Porzingis really does not do anything for this franchise.

Porzingis is viewed as a liability league-wide right now because of his injury history and lack of production in Dallas, so why would Houston want this to become their problem in the midst of a rebuild?

The Rockets have a good thing going for them in their rebuilding process and Christian Wood is at the center of it all, no pun intended. He is leading them in scoring once again this year and he ranks third in the league in scoring out of all players listed as a center league-wide behind just Karl-Anthony Towns and Nikola Jokic.

If the Rockets were winning games, Wood would likely be an All-Star, so the Rockets really are not getting fair value in this trade with Dallas. While they could definitely put Kristaps Porzingis in their frontcourt to replace Christian Wood, they really do not have anything to gain long-term from this trade other than a first-round pick in 2025.

Signing Wood last year ended up being one of the best moves this franchise has made in recent years and they struck gold on his fit in their system, so why would they want to give him up?

If they are going to look to leverage Christian Wood, the Houston Rockets will definitely be looking to add a couple of first-round picks and a young, emerging talent in this league, something Dallas does not have to offer.

Kristaps Porzingis is not the guy they want to add to their roster as they continue to rebuild, which is why the Houston Rockets will not be the team that ends up with Porzingis in a trade.
