Desmond Bane – Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies claimed the 8-seed in the Western Conference last season and they even pulled off a victory in their first-round series over the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City! We saw the potential this young group had last season and now, third-year guard Ja Morant is out to prove that this year’s Grizzlies team is one not to overlook.

They may be young, but with a lot of depth on their roster and an emerging superstar in their backcourt, the Grizzlies are the real deal in the Western Conference. However, Ja Morant has not been carrying this team on his own, as he has received a ton of support from Jaren Jackson Jr., Kyle Anderson, and most importantly, Desmond Bane on the wing.

Desmond Bane put together a really solid rookie season last year, resulting in him being named to the All-Rookie Second Team, and he has seemed to lock up a starting role for the Grizzlies this year, especially with Dillon Brooks out with a hand injury.

Through three games this year, Desmond Bane is playing upwards of 30 minutes per game, averaging 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and is shooting 47.8% from the floor, 34.8% from three-point range. Averaging the second-most shot attempts per game for the Grizzlies, Bane is much more confident in himself this year and this is not that much of a surprise.

In the offseason, one NBA scout spoke with NBA Analysis Network and claimed that Desmond Bane was his pick to be one of the breakout performers of the 2021-22 NBA season! Bane has absolutely lived up to this hype through the first week of the year and when Brooks returns from his hand injury, the Memphis Grizzlies will be an even deeper team than they already are.

Do not sleep on Memphis this season because they really do have a chance to avoid the play-in tournament and make the playoffs outright in the Western Conference.
