Would this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
The San Antonio Spurs were given Thaddeus Young back as return but that does not mean that he is a long-term piece. In this case, DeRozan was a priority to move and San Antonio just happened to receive Young. Now, they can flip him in this deal to a team that has a bigger role for him.
If the Spurs are able to get a first-round pick in this deal, that is a victory. This is just a swap but there could be other deals on the table.
In this particular one, Wenyen Gabriel and Jaxson Hayes bring intriguing big men back to San Antonio. They do not have a ton of depth in the frontcourt and could be looking for some more young pieces to add to the lineup.
This trade would land them two frontcourt pieces to throw into the mix. This would help balance on both ends along with Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson.

This is not a blockbuster deal that will help the Spurs get back to the postseason but it would allow them to land capital for a veteran forward. That is the ultimate goal with Young and it can be done here.
