The Atlanta Hawks were rumored to have put their former lottery pick, Cam Reddish, on the trade block this offseason. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft had yet to cement himself in the team’s rotation, missing a lot of time because of injury. When he was healthy enough to play, he wasn’t producing much.

But, things looked to finally begin clicking for him during the 2021 postseason. Reddish was sidelined until the final four games of the series against the Atlanta Hawks with an injury, but once he got on the court he produced.

He averaged 12.8 points per game, making 52.8 percent of his shots overall and a scorching hot 64.3 percent from the 3-point line. While that percentage is unsustainable, it was nice to see him get his shot going in the pressure cooker that is the NBA postseason.

That performance may have been what saved Reddish from being traded this offseason. He is oozing with potential, possessing the prototypical size to be an excellent two-way wing player. Now, he just has to put that potential to use and make the most of it.

He picked up right where he left off in the first game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks. Reddish scored a team-high 20 points off the bench and played some stellar defense. That two-way play is exactly what the Hawks are looking for.

“I thought he played a beautiful game, I really did,” McMillan said of Reddish. “Cam is the guy that really establishes that defense on that second unit. I just thought he had a solid game. He’s a two-way player and tonight he showed that he can play on both sides of the floor.”

Getting this kind of production from a player on the second unit just shows the embarrassment of riches that the Atlanta Hawks currently have. They are one of the deepest teams in the league and Cam Reddish having a breakout would make them that much more dangerous.
