How This Trade Impacts Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets have to think long and hard about what they want to do with Kyrie Irving. Moving on from him is something Kevin Durant wanted no part of earlier this offseason, but could his tune have changed now that Irving isn’t playing with the team?
At this point, parting ways with him could be the best course of action. Pulling the contract extension off the table clouds his future with the team. He could opt out of his deal next offseason and sign elsewhere, leaving the Nets empty-handed.
Looking to avoid that, Brooklyn should cash in and get any assets they can. This deal with the San Antonio Spurs would be a solid return package.
Dejounte Murray could step right into the starting lineup, providing a presence defensively. The Nets were not great on that end of the court last season, but Murray would help turn that around.

He is also an improving playmaker, so he could continue working on that craft alongside James Harden in the backcourt. Murray’s pick-and-roll game is coming along nicely and he is already an efficiency scorer at the rim and in the mid-range.
Thaddeus Young would be an excellent addition to the team’s frontcourt. He would provide Steve Nash with a lot of flexibility as he can play either power forward or center. Young is another strong defender and provides some scoring and playmaking from the frontcourt as well.

The first-round pick, should it convey, gives the Nets a chance to add a young player to the team. Or, they could use it in a trade package to acquire another established player.
