Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
With the Houston Rockets rebuilding, they are searching for ways to add more young talents to their team and Obi Toppin would be an excellent addition to their young core.
3Kevin Porter Jr., Jalen Green, and Josh Christopher are three of the young players in the Rockets’ backcourt right now and while they have Christian Wood and Kenyon Martin Jr. in the frontcourt, Houston could definitely still utilize Toppin off-the-bench.
He did not play much in New York last season during his rookie year, but Obi Toppin definitely learned a lot from guys like Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, and other veteran players on this roster. Being an older, inexperienced talent, Toppin could definitely be a player from the 2020 draft class that takes a big jump on a new team.
Toppin’s upside is limited right now in New York, hence why it could be beneficial for him to be traded, but at the same time, the Rockets would probably have to offer a little bit more than Danuel House Jr. to get a deal done.

The New York Knicks are a contending team in the Eastern Conference right now and unless they are getting a ton of value, there is no reason for them to make this kind of trade involving one of their better, younger talents. This is a no-brainer trade for the Houston Rockets if available, but the chances of this happening are slim to none.
