Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?

Seeing as the Spurs are now rebuilding and looking for ways to get young talents involved as much as possible, they really do not have anything to gain by trading Thaddeus Young for two veterans on the back-ends of their respective careers.

Maybe KZ Okpala could find something in San Antonio that he could not in Miami, but he too really is not a valuable commodity the Spurs would get back in this trade. Essentially, they would be left with an invaluable second-round pick that will be near the end of the draft for a very reliable and productive veteran forward.

Thaddeus Young may not be a long-term solution for the Spurs, but if this is the best offer they can get for him, they might as well hold onto him and have the veteran be a mentor for the young players on this roster.

It may sound surprising, but Thaddeus Young is one of the best players from the 2007 draft class, a draft that included the likes of Kevin Durant, Al Horford, Mike Conley and Joakim Noah, and he is more than capable of being a high-level talent off-the-bench for a team.

If they are not getting a lot of value from trading him right now, then San Antonio would be smart to just hold onto Thaddeus Young and look to possibly trade him around the trade deadline this season.

The Spurs are in no shape to contend in the Western Conference for at least several years at this point and they are going to be rebuilding for at least the next two to three seasons, which is why leveraging veteran talents for draft picks does make sense on their end of things. Miami is not offering this right now, which is why this trade does not make sense for the San Antonio Spurs.
