More playing time for rookie Cameron Thomas

If Kyrie Irving is forced to be sidelined, then obviously guys like Bruce Brown, Joe Harris and Patty Mills will see their minutes/role increase, but so will rookie Cameron Thomas. The Nets drafted Thomas 27th overall in this year’s draft and while many teams questioned his ability to be a “team-first player,” this kid has a chance to be the steal of the draft!

In his freshman season at LSU last year, Cam Thomas was one of the best scorers in the entire country, averaging 23.0 points per game and shooting 40.6% from the floor.

In Summer League out in Las Vegas this past summer, Thomas continued to show that he is one of the best offensive players in this draft class, leading all players participating in Summer League in scoring with 27.0 points per game and shooting 42.3% from the floor, 36.0% from three-point range.

So far this preseason and through training camp, Thomas has continued to improve himself as a versatile offensive weapon and some within the Nets organization have called this kid a “sponge” because he is constantly wanting to learn from the best.

With James Harden, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, LaMarcus Aldridge, Paul Millsap and other key veterans to learn from, Cameron Thomas is in a perfect situation to grow into a dynamic and key scorer off-the-bench early on in his career.

With the possibility of Irving being out, Thomas will get more playing time during his rookie campaign, which could turn out to be one of the best things to happen to the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets’ rookie has drawn some very high praise from his teammates and even James Harden has caught onto Thomas’ potential, stating that the young shooting guard is a better scorer than he was when the former MVP first entered the league.

By the end of December, we are going to be looking at Cameron Thomas as an x-factor off-the-bench for the Brooklyn Nets and if Irving is in fact out of the lineup due to vaccine mandates, then Thomas could wind up playing a huge role in the Nets’ quest to win a championship.
