Sekou Doumbouya – Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets acquired Sekou Doumbouya from the Detroit Pistons when they dumped DeAndre Jordan’s salary, but he may not be on the Nets roster too much longer.
Jahlil Okafor, another player who came to Brooklyn via Detroit was already waived and after bringing in Paul Millsap and LaMarcus Aldridge in free agency, the Nets may not have room for Doumbouya.
As of right now, Brooklyn has 15 players on guaranteed contracts for the 2021-22 season, which is the maximum allowed for a team during the season, but DeAndre’ Bembry is on a partially guaranteed deal and may have the upper hand on the young forward for the Nets’ final roster spot.
Since being drafted 15th overall in 2019, Doumbouya has averaged 5.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and has shot 38.4% in 94 total games with the Pistons. He certainly brings a unique aspect to Brooklyn’s bench as a lengthy and athletic forward that is still very raw, but his upside does seem a bit limited at this point.

He just has not looked comfortable at the NBA level in terms of being a power-forward and with Doumbouya not being much of a shooter, he really does not hold much value to a contending team like the Nets.
The 20-year-old is owed $3.6M this season and has a $5.4M team option for next season, so Brooklyn could look to trade him, but they may just wind up releasing him if no team wants to trade for him.
