Does this trade make sense for San Antonio Spurs?
Thaddeus Young could wind up being a great mentor for the San Antonio Spurs heading into the 2021-22 season and he could play a big role for them during the first few months of the season, but it is hard to imagine that they will keep him past the trade deadline.
The veteran forward is in the final year of his contract and his value is higher than many would imagine, hence why the Spurs would be smart to trade him for future assets. Kevin Knox II has not really been anything to talk about in New York, but who knows, maybe he can find something in San Antonio with a young team.
Knox is not really a big part of this trade, but Obi Toppin is, as last year’s 8th overall pick had a really impressive Summer League this year. In Summer League, Toppin averaged 21.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and shot 44.5% from the floor, making him one of the best all-around performers this summer.
At 23-years-old, Toppin is definitely an older, inexperienced talent in this league, but his upside is still existent. His athleticism and length at the power-forward position is something that could be a difference-maker for a rebuilding team like the Spurs and he could fit right in with the other pieces on their roster.

This is definitely one of the better deals for the San Antonio Spurs in terms of fit and talent for Thaddeus Young, which is why they could look to pull the trigger on this trade if the New York Knicks are willing to move Obi Toppin.
