Minnesota Timberwolves: Possible Addition Before the Season?
Stemming off of the whole Ben Simmons drama with the 76ers, the Minnesota Timberwolves are closely linked to this situation.
For months now, the Timberwolves have been one of the main teams in play to trade for Ben Simmons, but they do not necessarily have the assets the Sixers are looking for. D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jaden McDaniels are their three main tradable assets, which is a ton of value, but Philadelphia has declined to negotiate a trade package around these three guys.
The Timberwolves currently find themselves as the betting favorites to land Simmons from the Sixers before the start of the season and this is an organization that desperately needs to make a big move. Karl-Anthony Towns is the Timberwolves’ best player, but since he was drafted 1st overall in 2015, they have had just one winning season and one playoff appearance.
They must prove to Towns that they are invested not only in him but winning right now, which is why the Timberwolves decided to part ways with former president of basketball operations, Gersson Rosas. There was some speculation that Rosas was not willing to part ways with D’Angelo Russell and other key assets to acquire Simmons, which is one of the reasons a move was made.

Now, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Sachin Gupta has stepped into Rosas’ old role with the Timberwolves and seems to be “all-in” on pursuing Ben Simmons. Making this move and adding Simmons to this current roster gives Minnesota three former No. 1 overall picks to play around with, as well as a much improved defensive team.
Towns can hold his own defensively due to his athleticism and with the additions of veterans Patrick Beverley and Taurean Prince this offseason as well, all of a sudden, the Timberwolves looks like a team that can compete in the Western Conference for a possible playoff spot.
A big move is coming for the Timberwolves and whether it is Ben Simmons or someone else that they pursue, this franchise needs something good to finally happen.

The Timberwolves have been near the bottom of the league for too long and now with new ownership coming in led by Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, we can expect this Timberwolves franchise to be aggressive with their decisions and to do everything they can to put a winning team out on the court night-in and night-out.
