LeBron James Will Get Russell Westbrook ‘Comfortable’

Last season, Russell Westbrook immortalized himself by becoming the NBA’s All-Time leading in triple-doubles and for the fourth time in his career, he averaged a triple-double over the course of the season, as he averaged 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 11.7 assists, and shot 43.9% from the floor, 31.5% from three-point range.

He is one of the best players of his generation, but there are definitely some question marks about how Westbrook fits in with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, two other players who are extremely reliant on having the ball in their hands.

Next to James Harden in Houston, Russell Westbrook struggled next to another star player who always wanted the ball, so can this experiment work in Los Angeles?

“We need Russ to be Russ,” LeBron told reporters at Media Day. ““We don’t need Russ to change for anybody, that’s why we got him.”

Throughout his entire career, LeBron James has been notorious for making things work out on the court with other superstar players, as he has played with and won titles with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and now Anthony Davis. James has always been a primary ball-handler and facilitator for his team, but he is always willing to do what it takes to make his team a title contender.

“It’s our job to all help him feel comfortable in our system,” James said. “And he’s going to be as dynamic as he’s always been, so I look forward to that.”

Based on his comments, it seems like LeBron could look to take a step back in terms of what he does on the floor this season and let both Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis run the show. Of course LeBron James is still going to be LeBron James, especially come time for the playoffs, but having Westbrook could really take a lot of mental stress and physical fatigue off of him.
