OG Anunoby – Toronto Raptors
The 2020-21 season was definitely a year to forget for the Toronto Raptors, as they seemed to just never gain traction on anything. Not only did they finish 27-45, their least amount of wins since the 2011-12 season, but they missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The Raptors also made a really bad business decision by keeping Kyle Lowry at the NBA trade deadline instead of dealing him for immediate value.
This offseason, Toronto wound up losing Lowry to the Miami Heat and they got Goran Dragic and Precious Achiuwa in return for their veteran guard, which is a lot less than the value that the 76ers, Lakers, and Heat were offering the Raptors at the trade deadline for Lowry.
Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam are now the two focal points on this Raptors’ roster, but OG Anunoby could wind up being their breakout star. The 6’7” forward was drafted 23rd overall in 2017 and has been working his way up in Toronto’s rotations through the years.

Last year, OG Anunoby only played in 43 games due to injuries, but it was his best season yet, as he averaged 15.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and shot 39.8% from three-point range.
He can score off-the-dribble on the wing, he can shoot from the perimeter, he can rebound and he can defend at a high level, which is why OG Anunoby has a chance to be in the running for the 2021-22 NBA’s Most Improved Player award. VanVleet and Siakam cannot do everything for the Raptors, which is why Anunoby could be gearing up to have a breakout season.

Kyle Lowry being gone opens up the opportunities for others to step up and take on some of the scoring load and seeing as he was one of their more reliable scorers last season, as well as the fact that he is their best player on the wing, OG Anunoby is going to have plenty of opportunities to prove his worth to the Raptors this upcoming season, meaning that the 2021-22 season could be the best of his young career.
