Danuel House Jr. – Houston Rockets
As a result of all the offseason moves they made, the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently about $1.6M under the tax line for the 2021-22 season, making a trade to bring in more talent tough.
However, they do have a $4.2M TPE stemming from moving JaVale McGee to the Denver Nuggets last season and this exception could be used to absorb a contract like Danuel House’s, as he is owed $3.8M in the final year of his contract this year.
The Houston Rockets are rebuilding and as a result, they are going to be looking to get all of their young guys involved over some of their veteran talents. Guys like John Wall, Eric Gordon, and D.J. Augustin are all veterans who could be traded, but so is Danuel House Jr.
House joined the Rockets in 2018 and in three seasons there, he has averaged 9.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals and has shot 37.3% from three-point range. The Cavaliers ranked dead-last in the league in three-point shooting last year, hence why they could be interested in targeting a guy like Danuel House Jr.

Not only can he knock down shots at a high rate from the corners, but the Rockets wing can also be a reliable one-on-one defender.
“3-and-D” players always have a spot in this league and with the Cavaliers looking to add more wing talent this offseason, it could make sense for them to just absorb House’s contract with their $4.2M TPE that needs to be used before February 11, 2022.

With Dylan Windler’s status on the wing being uncertain right now and the Cavaliers not having many shooting threats, Danuel House Jr. could step into a key bench role for them immediately, supplying this team with a perimeter shooter that they have not had over the years.
