How This Trade Impacts Detroit Pistons
To start, it would be shocking to see the Detroit Pistons trade away Jerami Grant at this point. They took a chance on him in free agency and he delivered. The organization loves him and he has a great relationship with general manager Troy Weaver.
Trading away those types of players is not something you see often. Detroit is unlikely to part ways with Grant, as they see him as a piece of their core going forward. But, if they were to change their mind, a package like this might be the cause of it.
Detroit likely isn’t going to make noise in the Eastern Conference for another few years, so cashing in on Grant makes sense. Dillon Brooks is outperforming his contract and would provide Detroit with a scoring option on the wing.
Brandon Clarke has been excellent with the opportunities presented to him and could flourish with some extended playing time. He would be able to find that in Detroit. He is only halfway through his rookie contract as well, fitting the team’s timeline.

Tyus Jones is a steady backup point guard. He already has six years of NBA experience despite only being 25-years old. He would provide a good mentor for Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes to learn from along with Cory Joseph.
The draft picks are what could help Detroit turn things around. They already have what looks to be a strong young core in place. They could supplement that with more young players via those draft picks, or package them in a deal to land a possibly discouraged All-Star.

It didn’t pan out as well as hoped when they did that with Blake Griffin, but that shouldn’t deter them from attempting it again should the opportunity arise.
