How This Trade Impacts Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies need to cut down their roster and upgrading it while doing that would be a win-win. In this scenario, they do just that, as they cut down their roster by one and acquire a blossoming player in Jerami Grant.
Grant fits the mold of what the Grizzlies are looking for as a two-way player. He gets after it defensively with his ability to defend multiple positions and provides a little rim protection as a weak side defender as well.
Offensively, Grant proved that he can be a go-to scoring option. While his efficiency wasn’t always great during his first season in Detroit, he was able to get a basket when the team needed it. He is an adequate 3-point shooter and would help take pressure off of Ja Morant.
But, there are some questions about his fit. Would the Grizzlies be doing him a disservice playing him full-time at small forward? Jaren Jackson Jr. and Steven Adams are seemingly locked into starting frontcourt spots. Memphis would essentially have two players out of position in their starting five with Jackson and Grant playing the 4 and 3.

The trade package looks steep, but with extra first-round picks at their disposal, the Grizzlies don’t mind unloading two for a player that can help them win games right away. They also have excellent depth, so consolidating some of it into a player of Gran’s caliber makes sense.
Now, let’s take a look at how this trade looks for Detroit.
