How This Trade Impacts Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns could still be in the market for a versatile big man with Dario Saric going down with an injury. They could still see what they have in Jalen Smith, the high-upside former Terrapin.
If they realize they have enough in the frontcourt and want to bolster the wing, Smith is the best bargaining chip they have. He can be used to net a veteran to help them win now or another player with upside such as Cam Reddish.
Reddish had quite a showing in the postseason against the Milwaukee Bucks. It was a small sample size of four games, but it was a memorable four-game stretch as he made an impact on both ends of the court.
The upside that the Atlanta Hawks saw in him when they selected him 10th overall was shining through. He made 64.3 percent of his 3-point attempts, which is unsustainable but shows just how good of a shooter he can be. His athleticism and length also point to someone that can be a lockdown defender across multiple positions.

Acquiring him as insurance behind Devin Booker and Mikal Bridges would enable the Suns to run out even more small-ball combinations. Reddish and Cameron Johnson would help keep the defensive intensity with the second unit that Jae Crowder and Bridgers set with the starting five.
The upside that Reddish provides is something that would be tough to say no to as well. He could certainly expand and elevate the Suns’ core of Devin Booker, Bridges, Johnson, and Deandre Ayton.

Sending out a 2022 second-round pick along with Smith should be something the Suns do without much hesitation, especially with what Reddish provided in his playoff debut.
