Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

In terms of adding the other All-Star talent they want in exchange for Ben Simmons, getting Pascal Siakam could be a good move for the Philadelphia 76ers, but they would likely not want to sacrifice as much value as they are.

The second-round pick they would get really does not bring much value, so they would essentially be swapping Simmons for Siakam and gaining a first-round pick in 2022 at the expense of potentially swapping picks in 2024 and losing Shake Milton in the process.

The reason why this trade could make sense for the 76ers is that Siakam is a strong defender in his own right and he is a much better offensive player than Simmons.

The last two seasons, Pascal Siakam has averaged 22.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and has shot 45.4% from the floor, 33.4% from three-point range, making him the picture-perfect complimentary forward for Joel Embiid in the Sixers’ offense.

Embiid, Siakam, and Harris make up a really strong offensive trio in the Eastern Conference and they would still have Seth Curry and Danny Green as veteran shooters around them. Losing Shake Milton really is not that big of a deal either since the 76ers have Tyrese Maxey, who is expected to take a big leap in his second season.

Maxey had a strong showing near the end of his rookie year last season and in two Summer League games, he was brilliant, averaging 26.0 points, 4.5 assists, and shooting 50% from the floor. Tyrese Maxey is going to wind up being one of the first guys off the bench for the Sixers this season, which is why they do not really need Milton.

Although the Philadelphia 76ers could look to get more value for Ben Simmons from another team, they have been trying to move him for months now. Teams are going to start giving up on the idea of reaching an agreement with the Sixers given their asking price, which is why this deal with the Toronto Raptors may be the best they will get.
