How This Trade Impacts Sacramento Kings
At this point, it would benefit both the Sacramento Kings and Buddy Hield if they could find a new home for him. It is no secret that the team is open to trading him, as he has been involved in numerous trade rumors and was almost traded to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this offseason.
There are plenty of teams that could use his 3-point marksmanship and the Orlando Magic are one of them. Sending him to Orlando for Gary Harris and two 2022 second-round picks wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Kings.
Hield’s contract is something that many teams are hesitant to take on. He has three years remaining on it, as he has yet to truly live up to the billing of a $94 million deal. Right now, he is likely a better player than Harris, but this trade for the Kings goes beyond just on-court impact.
Harris is on an expiring contract, which would help Sacramento clean up their salary cap and relieve them of a lot of long-term money. That, along with two second-round picks in next year’s draft, is enough motivation to accept this deal should it become available.

On the court, Harris had the makings of an excellent two-way player earlier in his career with the Denver Nuggets. Between 2015-2018, Harris knocked down 38.9 percent of his 3-point attempts. This then he has lost his shooting stroke.
In the three seasons since, he has connected on only 33.7 percent of his 3-point attempts. If he could ever regain that shooting stroke from earlier in his career, he could be an excellent two-way player.

He did shoot the ball better with the Magic, making 36.5 percent of his attempts with them. He is also an upgrade defensively for Sacramento over Hield, which is something they need a lot more of to turn things around on the court.
