Michael Porter Jr. – Denver Nuggets
Extending Aaron Gordon on a long-term deal was one of the key things on the Denver Nuggets’ “to-do” list this offseason, but extending the contract of Michael Porter Jr. is also on this list. Porter Jr. was drafted 14th overall in 2018 by the Nuggets after a back injury caused him to slip in the draft.
Coming out of high school, Michael Porter Jr. was expected to be the consensus No. 1 overall pick whenever he declared for the NBA Draft, presumably in 2018, but the young wing underwent a minimally invasive back surgery called an L3-L4 microdiscectomy to treat herniated disks in his back while he was at Missouri, which caused a lot of concern for some teams with high draft picks.
Michael Porter Jr. falling to 14th overall was a dream come true for the Denver Nuggets because he has been a perfect fit in their system.
It took him some time to get used to playing in the NBA during his rookie season, but last year, Porter Jr. was fantastic, averaging 19.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and shooting 44.5% from three-point range on over 350 attempts.

Standing 6’10” and being the elite-level scorer he is on the wing, Michael Porter Jr. is going to continue growing into one of the toughest players to guard in this league and if he can put things together on the defensive end of the floor, he will be a multi-time All-Star very soon.
He is eligible for a $168M contract extension, but it is unknown whether or not he will get the max deal from Denver. Contract negotiations have been ongoing between Porter Jr. and the Nuggets over the last few weeks and things seem to be progressing, so it should just be a matter of time before Denver’s young wing has a new contract as well.

The Nuggets want to keep Michael Porter Jr. long-term and he does not seem to have any intentions of leaving, which is why we will likely see him sign a contract extension before the start of the 2201-22 season.
