Does this trade make sense for New York Knicks?

Terrence Ross is not necessarily a great fit for the New York Knicks defensively, but he gives them more offense off the bench.

While New York ranked 12th in the league in bench points during the regular season last year, their offense was still a major problem since they received limited reliable scoring production outside of Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, and Derrick Rose.

Not only did the veteran wing average 15.6 points per game last season while coming off the bench in 44 of the 46 games he played in with the Magic but near the halfway point in the season, he was being mentioned as a player to watch in terms of the Sixth-Man of the Year award.

Having both Derrick Rose and Terrence Ross as two “sixth-man” types of players in their second-unit could go a long way in helping the Knicks go from being a first-round playoff team to being an actual contender against the likes of the Bucks, Nets and Heat in the Eastern Conference.

While Obi Toppin certainly possesses a lot of upside as an athletic and versatile forward in this league, the Knicks really do not have room for him in their rotation right now and Kevin Knox is nothing more than a practice player for them at this point.

Trading both of these guys for an established veteran scorer like Ross definitely makes sense for the Knicks, especially if they do not have to give up a draft pick for him.

Terrence Ross is one of the best bench players in the entire league and has been a consistent scorer for years now, which is why New York would be smart to invest in him. Ross is set to make just $12.5M this season and then $11.5M next year, making his contract very affordable for the Knicks.
