Does this trade make sense for Indiana Pacers?

When you look at the big picture and the lack of success the Indiana Pacers have had over the years, maybe this is a trade that actually makes sense for them to try and progress for once. Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, and others have all built great teams over the years that can contend for titles, yet the Pacers have seemed to be stuck where they are in “quicksand” for years.

On paper, their roster of Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert, TJ Warren, Domantas Sabonis, and Turner should be outstanding, but they have not been fully healthy to play together, and this team has just underachieved time and time again. They are not a title contender right now, and even fully healthy, they probably are still not a real threat in the Eastern Conference.

Brogdon is not old, as he will be turning 29-years-old this season, but alongside Myles Turner, he could end up being the odd-man-out. Indiana is in a very confusing spot right now because nobody on their roster truly is an “untouchable” player. While they have several high-level/All-Star-level talents, this team does not look like a contender when they play.

Maybe the 2021-22 season will change things for this franchise, and Rick Carlisle will finally be able to make this team live up to their full potential, but if they do not by midseason, we could very well see them make a deal like this.

Moving Lamb is definite for the 2021-22 season, but I am not so sure that moving Brogdon for McCollum makes this Pacers team that much better. They would definitely get worse defensively since Brogdon is an above-average defender, and offensively, CJ McCollum is just a tad better statistically than Brogdon.

In terms of adding more talent, the Indiana Pacers should definitely consider adding CJ McCollum. Still, it may be better for them to try and part ways with Myles Turner and/or TJ Warren before looking to move Malcolm Brogdon.
