Ben Simmons trade rumors loom large over the heads of the Philadelphia 76ers’ front-office right now, and arguably, the best player they can get in return for him is CJ McCollum. Who knows if Portland is willing to trade McCollum, but if they are, he is the best player for the 76ers for a handful of reasons.
Not only has he proven to be a high-level scorer over the years, but the Blazers’ shooting guard has started to become a reliable ball-handler and facilitator.
Over the last three seasons, McCollum has had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.48:1, and he is coming off a season in which he had a career-high 4.7 assists.
Whether or not it is Seth Curry or CJ McCollum listed as this team’s “point guard,” the 76ers really do not play through a point guard per se, as they normally utilized Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, or Ben Simmons being the guy to initiate the offense.

Playing through Embiid will continue for the 76ers, which is why adding McCollum to fly off screens off-the-ball makes a ton of sense.
The 76ers could use another reliable three-point shooter outside of Seth Curry, and for his career, CJ McCollum has averaged 39.8% from three-point range.
