Sacramento Kings Receive: F DeMar DeRozan
Chicago Bulls Receive: G Buddy Hield
Over at Bleacher Report, they were working on hypothetical deals that involved each team’s worst contract. For the Chicago Bulls, their worst contract is DeMar DeRozan, who just signed this offseason.
In this deal, they send him to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Buddy Hield, who is also listed as their worst contract currently on the books.
Both players have three years remaining on their deals, so the money works. But, how is each team impacted by this deal?
For the Kings, this deal does make sense. They have used their last two first-round picks on point guards, selecting Tyrese Haliburton out of Iowa State in 2020 and Davion Mitchell out of Baylor in the most recent draft.

With their best player in De’Aaron Fox already locking down the starting point guard spot, you can be assured we will see many multiple-point guard lineups this season. As a result, moving on from someone like Hield makes sense as he is a bit miscast as a wing player.
DeRozan will provide the Kings with some more size on the wing and a steady performer that is coming off one of the best seasons of his career.
DeRozan has reached the 20-point per game plateau for eight straight seasons. He turned into a point-forward for the San Antonio Spurs this past season, leading them with 6.9 assists per game.

It wouldn’t be hard for Kings brass to convince themselves this is a good use of Hield when it comes to trade value, as they have made him available. It is appealing to land a veteran in DeRozan who can help push them closer to snapping their 15-year playoff drought.
Do the Bulls feel as good about trading away such a recent free-agent acquisition? Let’s take a look at how it impacts them.
