How This Trade Impacts Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have revamped a good portion of their rotation heading into the 2021-22 season. Josh Richardson, Dennis Schroder, Enes Kanter, Juancho Hernangomez, Al Horford, and Bruno Fernando could all find their way into minutes.
But, the frontcourt still leaves some question marks, namely the power forward spot. The hypothetical trade involving the Charlotte Hornets would solve a lot of those issues.
Kelly Oubre Jr. could slide right into the starting power forward spot. He had a lot of success with the Phoenix Suns before shooting struggles put a damper on his 2020-21 season with the Golden State Warriors. He would instantly become the team’s best option at the four spot with his two-way potential.
Mason Plumlee would provide the Celtics with another veteran option in the middle. He has experience coming off the bench or starting and would be comfortable in either role. Minutes would be tough to come by, however, as Robert Williams III and Kanter both should be getting playing time.

Flipping Horford for not only one but two players that can upgrade their rotation would be a huge win for Boston.
Trading away Kemba Walker and attaching a first-round pick to him was tough to stomach. Still, if that deal is essentially expanded to acquiring Plumlee and Oubre instead of just Horford, it looks a lot better.

This is a deal, regardless of who the filler is, that the Celtics would accept in a heartbeat. It’s a feel-good story that Horford is back in Boston, but he will not help them win games as much as Plumlee and Oubre would.
