Why Memphis Grizzlies Should Pursue Jerami Grant

The Memphis Grizzlies were one of the biggest surprises during the 2020-21 season. They defeated the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors in the NBA Play-In Tournament, earning the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. They won Game 1 against the Utah Jazz, but ultimately lost the series in five games.

The Grizzlies have some great young players in Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. to build around. They are in a position to take that next step and challenge for a spot outside of the Play-In Tournament. Acquiring a veteran such as Jerami Grant could help them do that.

Grant would provide Memphis with the offensive punch they are in need of. Seven different players averaged double-digit points last season, yet the team was right in the middle of the pack when it came to offensive rating, finishing 15th. Pushing that closer to the top-10, with their 6th rated defense, would make them a dangerous team.

Grant would provide some of that go-to scoring in the crunch time to help take the offense to another level. Defensively, he would fit right in as a versatile forward that can defend multiple positions.

To acquire him, the Memphis Grizzlies can offer some of their draft capital. They have five first-round picks in the next two drafts. They also need to cut down on their roster, so they can build a package around Dillon Brooks or Kyle Anderson to part ways with two-four players so they can start trimming down their roster.

Acquiring veterans to help the young players already in place and more first-round draft picks in the future would be a win for Detroit Pistons if they do trade Grant. For Memphis, it is worth the price, given how many picks they have and the need to begin upgrading the roster they have in place.
