Pass or Pursue?

There is no denying that Pascal Siakam is a great player, but he is not a top-tier player like Ben Simmons is. The Raptors’ forward definitely has the advantage on Simmons on offense as of right now, but you have to ask yourself if you are the Philadelphia 76ers how much is Pascal Siakam going to improve?

He is 27-years-old now and quite honestly, is probably the best version of himself that he will be in the NBA. Siakam can score and defend, but Ben Simmons has way more potential to grow than him and can be a multi-time All-NBA performer.

Pascal Siakam was named to the All-NBA team during the 2019-20 season, but it is hard to believe that he would sustain this same success next to Joel Embiid on the Sixers as their No. 2 guy.

Giving up both Ben Simmons and Tyrese Maxey for only Pascal Siakam really is not the best deal the Sixers could probably do, especially when C.J. McCollum could be on the table and would fit in better with the Sixers long-term.

Again, if Lillard or Beal is not available, it is really going to be tough to say that a trade package “makes sense” for the 76ers because they really wouldn’t.

Ben Simmons has a chance to continue growing into one of the better two-way players in the entire league, yet the Philadelphia 76ers have already burnt this bridge with him.

It would be very shocking to see Simmons and Philadelphia work things out for him to stay, at least to begin the season, which is why they will wind up losing value from their asking price in a trade for the 7-foot All-Star this offseason.

If this is the best trade on the table for the 76ers, then they may very well go ahead and add Pascal Siakam, but this move does not increase Philadelphia’s odds to win a title, which is why they would be smart to look elsewhere for a trade partner.

Verdict: Pass
