Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

Whether or not this trade makes sense for the New Orleans Pelicans really depends on where they are at by midseason. If the Pelicans are struggling, then trading Brandon Ingram now and gaining a ton of future assets definitely makes sense, but if they are exceeding expectations and on the verge of making the playoffs, why tear everything down?

Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson have not been the problems over the past few years in New Orleans. Their front office has not surrounded them with the right talents and now, they finally have some other high-level, solid players around them, so give this young team some time to prove themselves before giving up on them again, much as they did with Anthony Davis and others in the past.

The Pelicans do have an average age of about 24.5-years-old right now, making them one of the younger teams in the entire league. You can’t rush perfection and in the case of the Pelicans, they really cannot rush their developmental process with some of their key young talents in Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kira Lewis Jr., Naji Marshall, and their new rookies coming in.

This New Orleans team definitely has a chance to surprise many around the league during the 2021-22 season, which is why trading Brandon Ingram now makes little sense.

Adding Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga would be great, as the Pelicans would have a ton of new young talent coming in, but the Pelicans need to try and win now with what they have, otherwise, Zion’s future could become clouded.

It is definitely an interesting trade proposal for the New Orleans Pelicans to consider, but right now, it would be wise for them to not make a significant trade that would shake things up in a major way on their roster. Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson can take this team to the playoffs and they will be on the verge of doing so this season.
