Does this trade make sense for Sacramento Kings?
Moving on from Marvin Bagley III is something the Sacramento Kings may not necessarily want to do, especially since they drafted him 2nd overall in 2018, but he does not seem to want to stay in his current situation too much longer. He visibly looks like he does not want to be there at times and recently, Bagley has been liking posts suggesting he leave Sacramento all offseason long.
Keeping Bagley around just seems more unlikely each and every day, which is why the Kings would be smart to move him in attempts of adding some future value. This team is not close to being a threat in the Western Conference and the best thing they can do aside from continuing to develop their young talents is to add more future assets, which is what they would do in this deal.
Dwight Powell is by no means a valuable asset for the Kings to add, especially since they have Richaun Holmes, Tristan Thompson, and Alex Len in their frontcourt, but assuming Sacramento is near the bottom of the standings near the trade deadline, there is no reason that they would not and should not shop both Thompson and Len for value.
Who knows, maybe they could even flip Dwight Powell at some point for some draft picks! The point is that the Kings would be taking on some salary next season with Powell, but there is always the option to buy him out of his contract and they would still be getting a first-round pick in 2022, which is definitely valuable for them to continue rebuilding.

The key to success for the Sacramento Kings has to be to keep building around De’Aaron Fox and the other young talents in their backcourt, which is why keeping Marvin Bagley III definitely sounds smart, but if he wants out, then they will almost have to move him.
