Josh Jackson – Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have been very busy this offseason in terms of building for the future and this all started with them selecting Cade Cunningham first overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. By the time he plays his first real game in the league, Cunningham is going to be 20-years-old and he is already a really polished and well-rounded guard.

He can do a little bit of everything to help the Pistons, which is going to go a long way in their development with other young talents in Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, Killian Hayes and others. Jerami Grant is still the key veteran player on this roster and will once again be their “go-to” guy, but one name to keep an eye on is Josh Jackson.

The former 4th overall pick in 2017 played well early on in his career, but after two seasons with the Suns, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in a four-team deal back in 2019. In Memphis, Josh Jackson really did not play much and as a result, it looked like not many teams would be interested in the young wing.

However, Detroit gave him a chance to act as their “sixth-man” last season and he really thrived in this role, averaging 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists  and he shot 41.9% from the floor. His 30% three-point percentage is nothing to brag about and does look worrisome, but overall, Josh Jackson is definitely a guy who some contending teams should take a long look at as a potential trade target.

Jackson can play either the shooting guard or small-forward position and seems to be available in trade talks, which is why he may not cost a team too much. Detroit is rebuilding and would likely only want a draft pick in return for him, so any playoff threat looking to add another key bench guy could very well look to acquire Josh Jackson.
