Would this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?

If a player like Marc Gasol is available for basically nothing, the New Orleans Pelicans should take advantage of it. There is value in the veteran presence element of what Gasol brings to the table, but there’s real basketball benefits, too.

The Pelicans could use a stretch-five like Gasol who has some of the best passing ability for a center in the league. He would be a real change of pace from Jaxson Hayes if the young big man were to struggle at some points in the regular season, or if a different style was needed.

Gasol is a player that knows what it takes to win. He was a part of the Toronto Raptors team that brought the first title in franchise history. He is also a seasoned veteran with wisdom to provide a young team like New Orleans.

This is a franchise that has attempted to make some moves to build around Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram but nothing has worked just yet. There are still plenty of moves out there to be made moving forward as the offseason goes on.

The Pelicans were aggressive out of the gate and then notion might not change moving forward. If Gasol is available, New Orleans should take a flyer on the big man right away.
