Boston beefs up their rotation at some point midseason with Trade Exceptions
The Celtics have made a lot of deals/trades over the last years or so and as a result, they have a total of 5 trade exceptions, all of which expire during the 2021-22 season. They have exceptions from trades involving Jeff Teague ($370K), Moses Brown ($1.7M), Daniel Theis ($5M), Kemba Walker ($6.88M) and Evan Fournier ($17.1M), giving them a wide array of options to potentially trade for.
Who knows what players the Celtics are going to look to add at some point during the 2021-22 season, but they are going to be “buyers,” especially since they have a means to absorb small to big contracts.
Having a $17.1M trade exception from signing-and-trading Evan Fournier to the New York Knicks this offseason is huge and gives the Celtics a chance to add a very special player to their rotation. Boston will be a team to watch in NBA trade rumors as the deadline approaches.
Seeing as they just extended both Marcus Smart and Robert Williams on long-term deals, the Celtics most likely will not be targeting another All-Star-caliber player on a long-term, high-paying deal, but there are plenty of other options Boston could pursue.

Overall, the Celtics are going to be making some kind of trade at some point during this upcoming season, which is why having these trade exceptions is a big deal for them. This team still looks like they are missing something, which is why their front-office could address this problem midseason.
