#8 Dennis Smith Jr. – Previous Team: Detroit Pistons

One of the younger guards still available in free agency is Dennis Smith Jr. who spent last season with the Detroit Pistons.

Since being drafted 9th overall in 2017, Smith Jr. has bounced around from the Mavericks, to the Knicks, to the Pistons, to now being an unrestricted free agent. Detroit is not going to bring him back, so is this the end of the line for Dennis Smith Jr.?

If he is willing to take a minimum contract, DSJ could definitely be a young guard that is worth the investment for a rebuilding team, but very few teams have shown interest in him.

In four seasons in the league, Smith Jr. has averaged 11.8 points, 4.4 assists and has shot 40.0% from the floor, but injuries are a concern for him, which has likely resulted in him going unsigned to this point.

#7 Demarcus Cousins – Previous Team: Los Angeles Clippers

Speaking of injuries, no free agent still available has been hit harder by injuries over the years than DeMarcus Cousins. Once being called the best center in the league, Cousins suffered a torn Achilles, a torn quad and a torn ACL back-to-back-to-back, resulting in his fall from grace.

If even one of these injuries did not occur, Cousins would still be in the league and playing at a semi-All-Star level, but those days are well behind him. However, he can still contribute for a contending team off-the-bench, much like he did for the Clippers this past season.

He only played in a total of 23 games for Los Angeles, both regular season and postseason combined, but DeMarcus Cousins averaged 7.4 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 51.1% from the floor.

Those are good enough numbers to be a bench big man in this league that can play 10-15 minutes per game and at least in my opinion, he should be getting some more love from title contending teams.
