2. Won’t Have To Lose Future Assets
If the Houston Rockets want to move off of John Wall’s contract, they could always try the trade route. As we have seen throughout NBA history, there is no such thing as an untradeable player. There is always a deal that could be made.
However, given Wall’s huge contract, teams will not be lining up for him. He played well in his first season back and should do even better next season another year removed.
But, going on 31-years old, the explosive athleticism and quickness will begin to wane before even taking into account the lower-body injuries.
To trade Wall, Houston would assuredly have to attach sweeteners to the deal, whether it be future draft picks or some young players with high-upside. For a team in the infancy stages of rebuilding, that is just not something they can afford to do.

The Rockets need to be stockpiling draft capital and young players, not trading them away. Houston could also get stuck with more long-term money, as any team taking on Wall would presumably be looking to shed some contracts of their own in the process.
