Descending Contract
Something that the Dallas Mavericks have to start paying attention to is the salary cap. With Luka Doncic’s rookie deal expiring after this season, the Mavericks salary cap is about to spike.
The Mavericks are not going to let Doncic leave next offseason as a free agent. Even if he reaches restricted free agency, they will match any offer that he receives.
So, this offseason is probably the last time for the foreseeable future that the Mavericks will have some spending power.
While Buddy Hield has not truly lived up to the four-year, $94 million deal that he signed with the Sacramento Kings that began this season, there is one positive thing to it. The contract de-escalates as it goes on.

Hield made $24.7 million this season but his cost will go down approximately $2 million each of the three remaining seasons on his deal. He will be owed just over $18.5 million in the final year of the contract, which is a very palatable number for someone who shoots the ball as well as he does.
