Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?

San Antonio missed its chance to easily get rid of DeRozan. They had a chance to make a run down the stretch of the season and into the series portion of the postseason. They fell in the play-in game and were unable to advance. The Spurs have some young talent in the rotation and could add some more by sending DeRozan away.

DeRozan is not going to re-sign long term with the Spurs. That has been clear for over a year now, which is the main reason why it was assumed he would be sent away.

Now, it will have to be a sign-and-trade deal worked out. DeRozan will not be worth as much as he was in his previous contract.

Given his current age of 31, DeRozan still has plenty left in the tank and will come at a discounted price. This means the Spurs could have plenty of trade partners interested. Getting anything for a player, especially one like DeRozan, is better than letting him go for nothing.
