Sacramento Kings Receive: F/C Christian Wood
Houston Rockets Receive: F Marvin Bagley III, G Jahmi’us Ramsey, SAC 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #9), SAC 2025 1st Round Pick (Lottery-Protected)

Believing that the Houston Rockets would trade Christian Wood this offseason after a breakout 2020-21 season is kind of crazy to think about, but this trade scenario is actually not that insane to think about for Houston.

The Rockets are a team that have shown interest in acquiring a second lottery pick, especially since they own the 23rd and 24th picks in the 2021 NBA Draft and in this trade, they would be able to gain that second lottery pick without giving up these two late first-round picks they own!

Not only could they gain the 9th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, but Houston would be adding two young players to a roster that is rebuilding in Marvin Bagley III and Jami’us Ramsey. Bagley is in the final year of his contract, so they would not be tied down to him long-term, but he could absolutely be a great frontcourt piece for them to build with for the foreseeable future.

This is the best deal the Rockets could probably get for Christian Wood this offseason and in terms of value, this is a heck of a deal for Houston! Not to mention, the Kings would be getting exactly what they need in their frontcourt with Bagley wanting out and Richaun Holmes being a free agent.

Christian Wood averaged 21.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and shot 51.4% from the floor, 37.4% from three-point range this past season, making him a key “number two” type of player next to De’Aaron Fox. These two guys could definitely be a force to be reckoned with moving forward, which is why the Kings would be smart to pursue him via a trade this offseason.

Again, the Rockets are not looking to trade Wood given how well he played and the fact that he is on a very favorable contract for two more seasons, but they could capitalize on his value now and get exactly what they need moving forward from Sacramento.
