Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
The Atlanta Hawks offered John Collins a contract extension worth $90 million prior to the start of the regular season because he believes he will get more in NBA free agency, whether it is from Atlanta or another team.
If Atlanta decided to let him go, a player like Gordon Hayward in a trade would come in and be an immediate replacement. Having the option to go with more true wing threats on the court with Clint Capela manning the middle as the sole big man on the court could go a long way for the Hawks.
In addition to being a potentially more impactful all-around fit, Hayward has experience during the postseason. He can act as a leader in the locker room for a young team looking to take that step toward a championship.
Young has shown that he is not afraid of the big moment and Hayward would just give him another option on the perimeter. The Hawks would not have to give up much of this deal, which is another reason they should think long and hard about it.

When the time comes, it would not be surprising to see Atlanta make a big move in some capacity. If this is the one, it could be done sooner than later once the playoffs are complete.
