Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?

Quite honestly, adding Cade Cunningham to pair with Kevin Porter Jr. in the backcourt would be fantastic for the Rockets moving forward, but so would adding Jalen Green. There really is no reason for the Houston Rockets to move up one spot to draft Cunningham because it is not like he is so much better than both Jalen Green and Evan Mobley.

All three prospects possess first overall pick qualities and all three guys have a chance to be All-Stars in the future, which is why Houston should not be willing to part ways with a ton of assets just to move up one spot in the draft.

Having the first overall pick is obviously beneficial, but having the second pick in a draft like this one is definitely just as valuable. The Rockets have their eye on three guys right now (Cunningham, Green and Mobley) and quite honestly, I do not think they care which one goes first overall.

Houston could definitely utilize Cunningham, but they could do the same with Green and Mobley as well, which is why it is not worth giving up a ton of future assets to move up one spot and hold all the cards.

These late first-round picks that Houston has are very valuable because they can not only be used to bring in two more young talents to build with, but the Rockets could look to leverage these two picks together to move up and draft a high-level talent that potentially falls out of the lottery.

The best thing the Houston Rockets can do leading up to the draft is sit back and relax because no matter what Detroit does, the Rockets are going to end up with one of the best players in this year’s draft. Maybe they really want Cunningham and they believe trading up to get him is worthwhile, but in my opinion, there is very little that separates him from Jalen Green and Evan Mobley, which is why the Rockets should not trade up for the first overall pick.
