Does this trade make sense for the Charlotte Hornets?

Given the season they just had and the strides they made as a team, there is really no reason for the Charlotte Hornets to make this trade with the Lakers. Getting Kuzma, Harrell and the 22nd overall pick definitely gives value for a guy like Rozier, but there is still a chance they could get Harrell in the offseason.

With him having a $9.7M player option for the 2021-22 season, it is a very realistic possibility that Montrezl Harrell opts out of his contract, thus becoming an unrestricted free agent. Charlotte could then pursue him without having to give up Rozier, but they could also focus on pursuing a guy like Richaun Holmes in free agency.

The Kings center is coming off back-to-back impressive seasons and with him being named the best center available in free agency this offseason, Charlotte could look to turn their attention towards him with their estimated $30M in cap space, thus leaving no need for Montrezl Harrell.

A lot factors into this potential move of trading Terry Rozier in the offseason, but if they did decide to make him available in trade talks, the Lakers really do not have much to offer.

Kyle Kuzma is nothing more than a role player in this league and while there is value to be had with the 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft, Charlotte is not going to be able to find a talented player that can instantly help them win games during the 2021-22 season at that position in the NBA Draft.

There has been chatter also of the Hornets possibly exploring trade opportunities for Gordon Hayward “if the price is right,” but overall, there is no need for Charlotte to change things up roster-wise. All they need to become a threat in the Eastern Conference is to continue developing their young talents and add a reliable center.

For these reasons is why trading Terry Rozier to the Lakers makes no sense, even if they will have a crowded backcourt with Ball, Graham and Rozier. This backcourt worked well together during the 2020-21 season and there is no reason why they cannot find success again with each other next season.
