Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?

Mo Bamba is entering the final year of his contract and adding Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is an upgrade from R.J. Hampton in their backcourt, so of course this trade makes sense for the Magic! They would be giving up the 8th pick in the draft, but they would still be able to draft one of the Top-5 players in this year’s draft class with the 5th overall pick.

Quite honestly, there really is nothing not to like about this trade if you are the Orlando Magic. As mentioned earlier, Fultz and Anthony are two young pieces already in the Magic’s backcourt, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a versatile, high-level scoring threat that is just 22-years-old.

Prior to his injury, he was putting up All-Star-like numbers and he is only going to continue to improve as an all-around player. Getting the chance to learn from Chris Paul during the 2019-20 season in Oklahoma City definitely has helped SGA’s development as a young guard in this league and he could easily be the face of the Magic’s rebuild.

If the Magic were serious about potentially trading for Gilgeous-Alexander, they would probably have to include both of their picks in this year’s draft, which could make this a “no deal” for Orlando, but this trade proposal is definitely something that favors them.

You make room for guys like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on your roster, which is why he would be a great offseason acquisition for the Orlando Magic. This all sounds great for the Magic, but the chances of them actually pulling off a trade for the young Oklahoma City Thunder guard are slim to none.
