This team is one star player away from being a legit title contender
The ultimate reason Kawhi Leonard may consider joining the Dallas Mavericks organization this summer is because they truly are one star player away from being a legit contender. Luka Doncic is fantastic and is going to be a league MVP at some point in his career, but he alone cannot carry this Mavericks team to the NBA Finals, especially in the Western Conference.
Kristaps Porzingis is a former All-Star player and Tim Hardaway Jr. emerged as a key talent for them in the postseason this year, but again, neither of these guys are capable of being the second scoring option on a championship-caliber team. That’s why the Mavericks have emerged in NBA rumors as being a team on the lookout for a second star.
The Dallas Mavericks do not need a guy like Kawhi Leonard, they simply need Kawhi Leonard. His 10-year experience in this league is extremely valuable for a less-experienced team like the Mavericks and he is a 2x Finals MVP.
There really is not much more Leonard can prove in his career, which is why joining a team like the Mavs and building on his legacy of winning with numerous teams could be of interest to him.
The Los Angeles Clippers are definitely title contenders with Kawhi and they will be as long as he stays, but the question he does need to ask himself is whether or not they can sustain this high-level of play. They did make the Western Conference Finals for the first-time in their team’s history this year, but was this a fluke by the Los Angeles Clippers? Are they truly good enough to win a title?

These are all questions that Kawhi Leonard will need to answer this offseason as he faces the tough decision of possibly moving on from his current franchise yet again. Luka Doncic is definitely a better overall talent than Paul George and if Kawhi can make the Western Conference Finals with George, he can definitely make the NBA Finals with Doncic.
