Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

If the Philadelphia 76ers look to trade Ben Simmons this offseason, they are going to do so with the intent that they can receive immediate value that can help them contend for a championship. At first glance, this trade may not seem favorable for the Sixers, but there is definitely value to be had that can possibly help deliver them a championship.

While he is 32-years-old and on a bad contract financially for whatever team he is playing for, Kevin Love can still be a productive player and is a scoring threat from anywhere on the floor. This past season, he only averaged 12.2 points per game, but he still averaged 7.4 rebounds and shot 36.5% from three-point range.

Adding another big man who can stretch the floor and provide instant offense on the perimeter is definitely ideal for Philadelphia, especially since they have Joel Embiid handling everything on the interior. Love could definitely provide instant offense for Philly, as could Collin Sexton.

Bringing in Kevin Love and having both Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid making $30M+ per year is not ideal in terms of extending Collin Sexton long-term, but he is definitely a guy they could build around in the backcourt long-term.

This trade would likely mean that the Sixers would move on from Danny Green and possibly George Hill as well, but overall, the talent that Philadelphia would get from this trade would put them in a much better spot to contend for a championship than they are in right now with Ben Simmons.

If things still do not work out and they wind up falling short next year as well, then the 76ers will have a fallback plan already in place not only with Collin Sexton as a young talent they can build with, but with two extra first-round draft picks in 2022 and 2024.

With time, Ben Simmons can maybe evolve into being a two-way threat like the Sixers need him to be, but this organization is in a “win-now” mode. There is no time to wait around if you are the 76ers, which is why trading for Sexton and Love makes sense for the Philadelphia 76ers.
