Does this trade make sense for the Cleveland Cavaliers?

Collin Sexton is a highly-talented and athletic guard with a very bright future in Cleveland, but him being in the final year of his rookie contract definitely presents some question marks to the Cavs’ front-office. Do they extend him this offseason on a long-term deal, tying up more cap space, or do they possibly look to trade him while his value is at an all-time high?

Losing Sexton would definitely hurt the Cavaliers offense and overall production, especially since he has been the face of their rebuild, but bringing in Ben Simmons gives Cleveland an All-Star talent to immediately begin building around.

Right now, no big name players want to go to Cleveland and play for the Cavaliers not only because they have been unsuccessful as of late, but because it is Cleveland! By bringing in a highly talented player like Simmons, there would definitely be hope that they could land another All-Star quality player within the next few seasons to pair with him long-term.

Not to mention, the Cavaliers have time to focus solely on Ben Simmons and develop him into a weapon they can utilize offensively. He is not going to turn into a sharpshooter from the perimeter, but there is no reason that he cannot be a threat to blow past his defenders and finish at the rim every single position given his length and athleticism.

Developing Simmons further and pairing him up with their No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft, the Cavaliers would have everything they need to finally turn things around in the post-LeBron James era. Out of anybody the Cavs could target this offseason, Ben Simmons makes the most sense for them in terms of long-term success.
