Why the trade benefits the Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have turned into one of the worst teams in the league in recent years. They have made the postseason just once since drafting Towns with the first-overall pick back in 2015. This is a trend that is not going to change unless the front office adds some more impact performers.
This is where Simmons could come into play. He would give the Timberwolves three players previously drafted No. 1 overall. If the Timberwolves were to trade Towns, it would just put them back even further. This would take them in the other direction a bit.
Simmons can handle the ball and pass at a high rate. He is a strong rebounder because of his size at the point-guard position but struggles to score the ball. This is something that has drawn critics to him.
In a different system with different personnel, he might be able to fix his game a bit and add some more prowess scoring the ball. It would help to have a stretch-five like Karl-Anthony Towns to help mitigate some of Simmons’ lack of willingness to shoot.

The Timberwolves would create an elite duo with a trade such as this one. There is something that has to happen in Minnesota and this could be it if the front office wants to make some noise.
