Golden State Warriors Own Picks 7 & 14 In 2021 NBA Draft

All eyes were on the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors during the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night because of the pick protection Minnesota had on their 2021 1st Round Pick. The Timberwolves traded this pick to the Warriors last year at the trade deadline for D’Angelo Russell, but they traded the pick with Top-3 protection on it.

After finishing the season winning 7 of their last 12 games, Minnesota ended up with just a 27.6% chance of ending up with a Top-3 pick, which did not happen on draft night. The Warriors not only have their first-round pick this year, which is 14th overall, but they also own Minnesota’s pick this year, which ended up being 7th overall.

With the 7th and 14th overall picks in this year’s draft, the Warriors not only have the ability to add two young, core pieces to their team, but they could also package these picks together to add a championship-worthy, proven talent to their team.

Bob Myers and the entire Warriors’ front-office is always looking for ways to add talent to their roster next to Steph, Klay and Draymond and with ownership that is not afraid to spend money, the Warriors are right back in the thick of things in this league with two lottery picks this year.

The possibilities of what they could do are endless and Golden State is in a much better position than many imagine right now. They drafted James Wiseman 2nd overall last year and believe that he has All-Star potential moving forward, they have Andrew Wiggins, who is a young, multi-talented wing, and with other young, key players in Jordan Poole, Damion Lee and Eric Paschall, the Warriors not only have what they need to sustain success long-term, but win now as well.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all still in the midst of their careers and wanting to compete for championships, so these two picks in the 2021 NBA Draft could give the Warriors exactly what they need to make it back to the NBA Finals yet again.

Golden State is definitely going to be talking to teams about potential trades leading up to the draft, with both of these picks included in trade packages, so it should be interesting to see how this ordeal plays out. Will the Warriors trade these picks or will they hold onto them and add two more young talents to their roster?

Whatever the case may be, expect the Warriors to be championship contenders once again, assuming everybody can stay healthy, which is something that has been hard to come by over the years with Golden State.
