Loser: Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have not had a lot of success over the years as a franchise and their two greatest accomplishments over the years have come in the draft. They were able to get Karl-Anthony Towns #1 overall in 2015 and then they were able to draft Anthony Edwards #1 overall in 2020.
The Timberwolves had a 9% chance to end up with the #1 pick this year and a 27.6% chance of ending up with a Top-3 pick, which is significant because their 2021 first-round pick was traded to the Warriors at the NBA trade deadline last year with Top-3 protection on it.
Keeping their first-round pick would have been huge this year, since it would have been inside the Top-3, but that did not happen for the Timberwolves and now, they are left with no first-round picks.
With virtually no cap space and no draft picks now, it is hard to imagine that the Timberwolves will be able to improve from where they were this past season without making a significant change to their roster. With how long the Timberwolves have been having losing seasons with Karl-Anthony Towns…that’s a problem.

Getting their pick back via the lottery would have been huge for the Timberwolves and given them another chance to try and add a high-level talent to their roster. Now, the Timberwolves will have to try and make some moves throughout the offseason to add more talent to their roster.
Things have not gone the Timberwolves’ way over the years and this is yet another one to add to their “collection” of misfortune.
